Yazaki North America Launches Innovative Sustainability Project in Mexico with TOWING Co., Ltd. and Nagase Enterprise Mexico

CANTON, Mich., December 4, 2024 – Today, Yazaki North America announced a new exploratory project aimed at enhancing sustainability and corporate social responsibility efforts in Mexico. This initiative, in collaboration with TOWING Co., Ltd. (TOWING) and Nagase Enterprise Mexico (NEM), seeks to address environmental challenges through innovative agricultural practices. 

The project will conduct a Proof of Concept (PoC) in Mexico, utilizing TOWING’s “Soratan” technology. Soratan, a high-performance biochar tailored to Mexican soil conditions, will be applied alongside locally sourced organic fertilizers. The PoC will take place on a farm in Guanajuato, Mexico, focusing on the cultivation of leaf lettuce and head lettuce. 

TOWING is a Japanese agri-tech startup that develops and sells Soratan, while Nagase Enterprise Mexico is an entity of Nagase Group, a Japanese chemical corporation established in 1832 specializing in biotech products for agriculture, food personal care, and pharmaceuticals. The project aims to validate Soratan’s effectiveness in soil regeneration and yield improvement. By addressing soil degradation in Mexico, the initiative supports sustainable agricultural solutions that contribute to decarbonization through carbon      sequestration and reduced reliance on chemical fertilizers.  

Mexico faces significant environmental challenges, including soil degradation. Soratan offers a solution by enhancing soil health, upcycling biomass, and sequestering carbon dioxide. The project started in      November 2024, with the harvest scheduled for February 2025.
